Lake Como Borough Celebrates Nation’s Top Clerk, Introduces 2026 Budget
- Meeting Overview:
The Lake Como Borough Council meeting on Tuesday night featured the introduction of the 2026 municipal budget and the recognition of Amy L. Boney as the top municipal clerk in the nation. The council also discussed upcoming seasonal street changes, ongoing committee developments, and procedural ordinances.
In a moment of local pride, the council recognized Borough Clerk Amy L. Boney as the number one municipal clerk in the United States for 2026. This accolade highlights Boney’s exceptional service to Lake Como, earning her more appreciation votes than any other clerk across the country since 2019. Council members expressed their gratitude for her dedication and contributions to the community, emphasizing her commitment beyond her official duties.
The council also introduced the 2026 municipal budget, with the first reading presented during the meeting. The proposed budget is approximately $5.1 million, marking an increase of about $250,000 from the previous year. The municipal portion of the tax rate is set to decrease slightly, from 388 to 387, resulting in an average increase of about $220 for residential homeowners. The council highlighted that the municipal budget accounts for roughly 35% of residents’ overall tax bills, with the rest comprised of school and county taxes. The budget adoption meeting is scheduled for June 3rd.
Additionally, the meeting covered routine legislative matters, including the passage of ordinances to ensure accurate record-keeping regarding zoning officers and administrative roles. The council clarified that these actions were primarily housekeeping measures to align current records with historical appointments dating back to 1979.
Seasonal one-way street changes were announced to take effect around May 15th, and fire hydrant flushing is scheduled from May 11th to May 15th, which may temporarily discolor water. The Shade Tree Commission’s inaugural meeting was also a point of discussion, with ongoing efforts to establish short- and long-term goals. The Tourism Committee welcomed a new member, Kim Wall, and planned future events, including the potential start of “Wednesdays on the Water” in May.
