- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Little Falls Town Council Workshop meeting, discussions centered around parking concerns on Main Street, various community events, and a grant application for the library. Mayor James Damiano opened the meeting by honoring the late Joe Coyle, a former police lieutenant, and by recognizing the value of Black History Month. No public comments were made during the meeting. One notable issue discussed was the town’s parking situation, which Councilman Michael Murphy and Mayor Damiano addressed with differing views on time limits for parking. Additionally, the council debated the logistics of funding a grant program for the library, with Councilwoman Christine Hablitz pushing for the council’s support due to the library’s financial needs and its importance to the community.
Addressing the parking situation on Main Street, Councilman Murphy announced ongoing discussions with local businesses to address their concerns. The mayor cautioned against a one-size-fits-all approach, noting that some businesses have customers who stay longer than two hours. Murphy recognized the need to balance the interests of businesses with those of the community and plans to gather more input before coming to a resolution.
The meeting also focused on community engagement through upcoming events. Councilman Murphy shared plans for a Ramadan lighting ceremony at Wilmore Road Park, which will not only be a cultural celebration but will also support the local Community Food Bank with a food drive. Councilwoman Hablitz reported on the construction of Blore Park and reiterated the council’s consideration of a donation to the library. She emphasized the library’s role in providing diverse services such as arts and gardening clubs, and cooking classes. Councilwoman Jayna Patel briefed on health-related events, including a dental clinic for children and a heart health presentation at the library. Councilman Christopher Vancheri mentioned a Valentine’s Day program for seniors and stressed the importance of selecting Capital Improvements for the upcoming budget.
In terms of governance, several resolutions were approved, including a change order for a construction project that resulted in a cost decrease. Ordinances introduced for public hearing included the private sale of municipal property and amendments to Township Code fees.
The council members also took the time to acknowledge personal and communal milestones. Councilman Murphy expressed his condolences for the passing of Sheriff Berdnick, Chief Steven Post honored the service of Lieutenant Coyle, and Councilwoman Hablitz received a birthday shout-out before the meeting adjourned.
