- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Little Falls Town Council advanced community initiatives, including the adoption of the 2024 Municipal budget geared towards reducing taxpayer burden, the introduction of a capital ordinance for Wilmore Park improvements, and the discussion of several bond ordinances for vital public improvements. The meeting also celebrated local achievements and addressed important proclamations.
The primary focus of the Town Council was the discussion and eventual public hearing on the 2024 Municipal budget. The council aimed to provide financial relief to taxpayers while ensuring that essential services remain intact.
Following the budget discourse, attention turned to a resolution that proposed adjustments and cancellations of taxes on a particular property. This resolution was underscored as a strategic move for the township, promising to deliver an increase in revenue. Additionally, an administrative error regarding an affordability assistance grant was rectified through another resolution.
Infrastructure and community amenities were also on the agenda, with the introduction of a capital ordinance to allocate $250,000 for the construction of bathrooms at Wilmore Park. This enhancement is expected to improve the park’s facilities for the benefit of residents and visitors. Moreover, a resolution approving a change order for downtown streetscape improvements was discussed.
Public improvements were further explored through the second reading and public hearing of various bond ordinances. These included the construction of a municipal parking lot, enhancements to the civic Center building, the building of a new foot bridge, and a range of other public improvement projects and acquisitions.
In addition to the weighty financial and infrastructural matters, the meeting celebrated the success of the town’s young basketball teams, with the Mayor recognizing the achievements of three championship-winning teams. The coaches and players were honored with medals and congratulations.
The council also acknowledged internal advancements within the Little Falls EMS division, with Nicole Greco and Sarah Ramos receiving promotions and Robert Tierney being elevated to the rank of Deputy Coordinator.
Several proclamations were made, drawing attention to important social issues and community concerns. These included National Donate Life Month, Earth Day, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Autism Awareness Month, and New Jersey Local Government Week.
During the meeting, the council also addressed community engagement and upcoming events. There was mention of the Spring Fling and an important meeting with the county concerning the Pekman Bridge. Updates on library events, the farmers market, and the baseball and softball opening day parade were shared. Additionally, the Domestic Violence Prevention Committee’s fundraising efforts were updated.
The public health department announced a series of upcoming clinics and screenings. Furthermore, the meeting concluded with a motion to open the floor to the public for agenda items.
