- Meeting Overview:
The Little Falls Town Council held its annual organization meeting on January 6, 2025, where Councilman Anthony Sgobba was unanimously elected as the new council president. The meeting saw the approval of several mayoral appointments and recognized local families for their efforts in the “Light Up Little Falls” holiday house decorating contest. A time capsule set to be opened in 2068 also received attention, reflecting on the township’s centennial celebration.
The key event of the meeting was the election of Anthony Sgobba as council president for 2025. Following his election, Sgobba expressed gratitude for the honor and committed to supporting the council’s work throughout the year. He took the oath of office, promising to uphold the responsibilities of his new position diligently.
The meeting continued with the approval of mayoral appointments for various township positions, including board and commission members, and the municipal auditor. These appointments were passed with unanimous consent. Among the appointments, particular attention was given to the planning board, where challenges were acknowledged by the council president, who thanked Wal Catrick for his leadership.
The council also discussed the significance of their various committees. The finance committee, school liaison committees, and the senior citizen advisory committee were among those mentioned, with a special note on the renaming of the domestic violence prevention committee to the domestic violence awareness committee. Councilman Murphy confirmed this change.
One of the meeting’s lighter moments was the recognition of the “Light Up Little Falls” holiday house decorating contest winners, which brought a sense of community pride and festivity. The DS Moreno family won first place, followed by the Downing family in second, and the Brown family in third. The families were invited to the front to receive congratulations and applause.
Attention was also drawn to a historical artifact, a time capsule buried in Memorial Park during Little Falls’ centennial celebration in 1968. Set to be opened on April 2, 2068, this time capsule serves as a reminder of the township’s history and heritage. The council clerk noted that the remaining time until its opening would be recorded at each organizational meeting.
In matters of public safety and infrastructure, the council addressed the need for elevator inspection services. A resolution was introduced to ensure compliance with safety codes, aimed at preventing entrapments and maintaining municipal standards. This resolution was approved unanimously.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for public comments, though no attendees chose to speak during these sessions. Despite the lack of public input, the council ensured that procedures for participation were clearly outlined, emphasizing transparency and community engagement.
As the meeting drew to a close, council members were invited to provide reports from their respective committees. However, no updates were presented. The council then moved to enter an executive session to discuss confidential matters, with an assurance that no actions would be taken during this time. After a brief ten-minute session, the council returned and concluded the meeting with a motion to adjourn.
