Little Ferry School Board Receives Unmodified Audit Opinion, Highlights Progress on Liberty Middle School Construction
- Meeting Overview:
The Little Ferry School Board meeting featured the presentation of an unmodified audit opinion for the district’s financial statements and updates on the progress of the Liberty Middle School construction. The board also addressed fund allocations and upcoming educational initiatives.
The meeting commenced with Andrew Parent, a partner from Vincency and Bliss, presenting the audit results for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. Parent reported that the district received an unmodified opinion. He detailed the district’s fund balance, which stands at $9,462,000. The balance includes allocations such as $5.4 million for capital reserves, $637,000 for maintenance reserves, and $721,000 for tuition reserves, among others. The audit came with two recommendations: verifying payments to vendors against state contract agreements and issuing pre-numbered receipts for student activity funds.
Superintendent Matthew Perrapato provided an update on the construction of Liberty Middle School. The project remains on schedule, with concrete foundation work nearly complete. The next two weeks are anticipated to be significant, with the first steel delivery expected to enable vertical construction. Perrapato expressed optimism about the progress but cautioned about potential minor scheduling shifts due to weather.
On the educational front, the board discussed the districtwide professional learning community’s focus on reframing behavior. November and December will emphasize the “Noble Classmate” initiative, encouraging students to demonstrate leadership and ethical behavior. Additionally, joint efforts with Richfield Park educational leaders aim to enhance the transition for students moving to high school and improve collaboration among teachers.
The meeting also noted the retirement of two long-serving staff members, Marian Goodday and Roseanne Pal, acknowledging their contributions to the district. The board expressed gratitude for their years of service.
