It was highlighted that any items reintroduced later would impact the owner’s construction contingency, stressing the need for careful financial management.

The committee also tackled the submission of a 195-page design development package to the MSBA. Concerns were raised about the timing of the submission, as the package remained under development during the meeting. The documentation includes crucial details such as drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, vital for MSBA’s understanding of the project’s progress. Despite some members expressing reluctance to approve the package without a full review, the urgency of the submission deadline prompted a motion to authorize the project manager and design team to finalize the package.

To maintain transparency while safeguarding security, it was recommended against publicly sharing the full report. Instead, renderings will be made available on the project’s website to inform the public of the design progress.

Additionally, the meeting addressed project invoices from Studio G and Gilbane, which were approved without debate. The committee also discussed the milestone schedule, detailing the construction timeline and emphasizing the importance of clear communication with the school community regarding the construction’s impact. The construction is anticipated to begin on July 1, 2027, with completion expected in 2029.

Further discussions included updates from the Owner’s Project Manager and the design team on their recent activities, such as seismic refraction surveys and adjustments to the schedule for site investigations. The committee also reviewed the exterior design options, including community input on color choices.

The meeting concluded with public comments, where an abutter voiced concerns about tree removal and potential blasting impacts on her property. The committee assured that these concerns were acknowledged, although discussions were deferred pending legal counsel involvement.
