- Meeting Overview:
The Lower Town Council meeting focused on growing concerns over speeding on Town Bank Road, and other community updates including flood zone regulations and upcoming local events.
During the public comment portion, Alex Philipov raised serious safety concerns regarding speeding on Town Bank Road. Philipov noted that vehicles often exceed 70 miles per hour, especially during weekends and in the mornings, posing a significant danger to residents. He mentioned that he had discussed the issue with multiple police officers, who suggested bringing it to the Council’s attention. Philipov expressed frustration over the lack of enforcement and deterrence measures and emphasized that the issue is critical, predicting that it is only a matter of time before a fatal accident occurs.
In response, a Council member assured Philipov that the matter would be escalated to the chief of police. The Council acknowledged that although the speed limit had already been reduced from 40 to 35 miles per hour, further measures would be considered to enhance safety on the road. The Council advised Philipov to follow up with the township manager for updates on the actions being taken.
Another topic discussed was the new flood zone regulations issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The Council reminded residents about a recent presentation by L Max Consultant Group, which is available online, detailing the impact of these regulations. The township has mailed letters and included information in tax bills to ensure residents are well-informed. The Council encouraged residents to review the projected flood zone maps available on the township website and to voice their concerns to the state using the provided QR code.
Additionally, the Council announced the rescheduling of the Children’s Assistance Fund fundraiser to August 28th due to rain. The event, featuring the Amish Outlaws band, will be held at the ferry, starting at 5:30 PM.
The meeting concluded with Council members urging residents to stay informed about the DEP regulations, highlighting that these rules could affect the township.
