Lynn Haven Secures Grant Funding for Key Infrastructure Projects; No City Match Required
- Meeting Overview:
During the recent Lynn Haven City Commission meeting, officials announced successful applications for grant funding aimed at two significant infrastructure improvement projects, both of which will proceed without requiring a financial match from the city. The West 10th Street Utility Improvements Project and the Florida and Ohio Avenue improvements were the focal points of the discussion, highlighting the city’s progress in enhancing local infrastructure and revitalizing downtown areas.
The West 10th Street Utility Improvements Project is set to receive additional grant funding to bridge the gap between the original project cost and current inflation-adjusted estimates. The project, encompassing around 9,300 linear feet of sewer rehabilitation and extensive water main upgrades, was initially estimated at $5.25 million. However, due to rising costs, the construction estimate now stands at approximately $6.38 million. The grant will allow the city to cover the increased costs without resorting to value engineering. Officials anticipate receiving a reimbursement for the design phase shortly, followed by a public workshop to engage the community further.
Similarly, the Florida and Ohio Avenue improvements project is leveraging grant funds to address the increased project cost, now estimated at $12 million, up from the initial $4.3 million. This project focuses on enhancing the streetscape and accessibility along key downtown corridors, including adjustments to make the area more handicap accessible. The design phase is about 60% complete, with a public workshop scheduled to gather community input. Officials highlighted that while the grant covers many expenses, certain non-eligible items will be funded through the Community Redevelopment Agency budget.
