The meeting also delved into the pre-Advanced Placement (pre-AP) curriculum for ninth and tenth graders. This initiative marks a departure from traditional honors courses, promoting cross-curricular connections and shared instructional strategies. A citywide event, combining an art show and wellness night, is planned for April 9 to engage the community in discussions about safety. The committee also recognized the progress of the Richer project, highlighting the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s acceptance of the preferred schematic design for a new elementary school. This development marks a step forward in accommodating 950 students, advancing the project to the next phase of design development.

Further discussions included the strategic plan, focusing on critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and adaptability. The plan is set to inform new school improvement plans, with updates expected in April. The committee received updates on the budget, with plans to restore four buses to the transportation fleet and an upcoming public hearing on the FY27 budget. A $1,500 donation for the Carol Driscoll Memorial Scholarship was approved, along with a $31,000 grant for improving literacy through a multi-tiered support system.
