Mr. Valz brings over 12 years of finance and managerial expertise to the district, having served as the Director of Finance and Business Manager for Winthrop Public Schools and as a Financial Analyst for Chelsea Public Schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Salem State University and an active state license as a school business administrator. Valz was recognized for his potential to enhance the district through the improvement of budgetary procedures and the pursuit of grant opportunities.

During the meeting, Valz conveyed his eagerness to join the Medford Public Schools team and continue the transparent and fiscally responsible management of the budget. He shared his background with the committee, outlining his progression from managing an after-school program to gaining substantial experience in budget development, contract negotiations, and capital improvement projects within the public education sector.

The Superintendent also mentioned that Valz would work under the guidance of Mr. Jerry McHugh, who is transitioning out of the district, to ensure continuity in maintaining the sound budgetary practices recently implemented.

The recommendation was well received by the committee members, and after a brief Q&A session where Valz described his approach to collaborative budgeting and engagement with school principals and administration, the motion to approve his appointment was put forward. The vote was unanimous among present members, with one member absent.
