To mitigate the tax levy, the board examined the use of a bond sinking fund and interest earned on bond proceeds.

The Athletics department presented a report spotlighting the escalating costs of maintaining 23 Varsity Sports. A significant portion of the budget is dedicated to coaches’ salaries, equipment maintenance, official’s fees, and uniforms. Among the issues raised was a notable increase in the miscellaneous expenses category, which included the adoption of an advanced Huddle service – a tool for detailed sports statistics and scouting. The board also noted shifts in student participation across various sports, with a decline in softball but an uptick in football interest.

The co-curricular segment of the budget received attention as well, with the board discussing the array of clubs and activities available to students. These extracurricular options are vital for the comprehensive development of students and require careful fiscal planning to ensure their continuity.

In a move to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of educators, the board honored teachers of the year from Moss, Campbell, Edgar, and the high school. New hires, including an industrial arts teacher at Edgar and a special education teacher at Moss, were introduced, and the new full-time principal of Moss, Jennifer Asperis, was welcomed back to the district.

The meeting also encompassed the approval of superintendent recommendations, the acknowledgment of teacher appreciation week, a PTC fundraiser, and the approaching spring break. Additionally, the construction committee deliberated the need for enhanced communication strategies, potentially through a dedicated committee or external company, to better engage with the community on ongoing projects.

The student board member provided updates on the New Jersey GPA exams and highlighted the spring musical “The Little Mermaid,” among other student achievements and events within the district.
