The volunteer ambulance service, Hatzalah, received commendation from the City Commission for its swift response times and selfless service to the community.

The Homeless Outreach team was acknowledged for their efforts in resolving a challenging situation involving a homeless encampment in Flamingo Park. The team’s work ensured the safety and well-being of both the residents and the homeless individuals involved.

Recognition was also given to the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce and Moonlighter Fab Lab for their support during a visit from sister cities. Additionally, the Director of Political Affairs from the Consulate General of Israel in Miami accepted a proclamation recognizing Israel’s 76th anniversary of independence, an acknowledgment that underscored the importance of fostering unity and recognizing achievements in the current political climate.

The Police Citizens Subcommittee’s proposal for a spring break task force and its contributions to city safety were praised. The Black Affairs Committee was commended for its advisory role during spring break, particularly for activating Goodwill ambassadors, addressing communication challenges, and engaging with the police department on enforcement and diversity matters.

The City Commission extolled the “Breaking Up with Spring Break” campaign for its innovative approach to promoting responsible behavior, which led to over 19.8 billion media impressions and features by numerous news outlets. The campaign’s success was partially attributed to the partnership with the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau and their agency VML.

Individual contributions by community members were also celebrated, with Alex Krueger de Broda recognized for organizing Fleet Week events and Alan Stang receiving the prestigious silver award for his volunteerism.

The city staff who assisted in the renovation of the commission chambers, which had not seen updates in over 40 years, were presented with a certificate of recognition. The mayor thanked the facilities and Fleet Management Department, IT department, and office of Marketing and Communications for their hard work.

The commitment to community service extended to city employees who volunteered to assist individuals with tax preparations. Their dedication was acknowledged and appreciated by the mayor.

Commissioner Bot highlighted the significance of Miami Beach’s architectural heritage and the Miami Design Preservation League’s efforts in historic preservation and economic development. A certificate of honor was presented to the league in recognition of its work.

In light of Cuban Independence Day, the ongoing challenges in Cuba were addressed, including the repression of free speech, economic freedoms, and human rights. The City Commission’s support of Cuban Independence Day through a signed proclamation was noted.

Lastly, the meeting addressed a scheduling conflict for the June 26 commission date, with a commitment to resolve the issue through behind-the-scenes planning for an alternate date.
