Jones shared his personal connection as the first openly LGBTQ person in the Florida Senate and underscored the importance of visibility and representation.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Lavine Cava expressed pride in the community’s resilience, referencing past challenges and framing the current celebration as a resurrection of ideals. She announced plans for ongoing celebrations and presented a proclamation commemorating the event.

The meeting also included a call to action for civic engagement. A commissioner urged community members to vote and be active in shaping the city’s future, highlighting the need for vigilance in preserving inclusion and respect, especially in the face of external pressures from state legislation.
