At the outset of the meeting, Frank Capone, Jacqueline Tobacco, and Leonora Caminiti took their oaths of office, marking the beginning of their three-year terms on the School Board. The reorganization continued with the unanimous re-election of Frank Capone as President of the Board. In his acceptance speech, Capone expressed his commitment to overcoming challenges and striving for excellence, emphasizing his dedication to the interests of Middletown’s students, parents, taxpayers, and teachers.

Jacqueline Tobacco was also unanimously elected as Vice President of the Board, and she was designated as the New Jersey School Boards Association delegate, with Kate Farley serving as the alternate delegate.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to reevaluating the School Board’s meeting schedule to better suit board members’ availability. The discussion revolved around shifting the regular meeting day from Tuesdays, which had been causing conflicts for some members, to another day of the week, with Thursdays and Wednesdays being considered. After deliberation, it was tentatively decided to maintain Tuesdays with adjustments made to specific dates to avoid clashes with other obligations and important events such as the special budget meeting in March and the final budget approval in April.

The board also took a roll call vote to approve the proposed calendar for the year’s meetings, ensuring that the changes made would be clearly communicated to the public to avoid confusion. The importance of transparency and keeping the community informed about the revised meeting dates was underscored during the public comment segment.
