The most prominent topic was the amendment to the legislative directive concerning the DOJ’s settlement agreements with the city. Council Member Wonsley introduced a motion to amend the directive to require monthly updates on the DOJ litigation, rather than the previously mandated quarterly updates. This change aims to ensure that the council receives timely information due to the evolving nature of the proceedings.

In a closed session, the council deliberated on three litigation matters, including the DOJ case, a lawsuit involving Pro-Life Action Ministries, and a case with the City and County of San Francisco against former President Trump. Upon reconvening in open session, it was confirmed that no actions were taken regarding the DOJ and San Francisco cases. However, the council did approve a settlement in the Pro-Life Action Ministries case, agreeing to pay $45,000 in attorneys’ fees and costs to the plaintiffs’ legal representatives, the Thomas More Society.

Additionally, the council approved several other items, including appointments to the Capital Long-Range Improvement Committee and various committee reports. These reports covered an extensive range of municipal concerns, from infrastructure projects and safety improvements to public health funding and administrative contracts.
