Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission Denies Appeal to Halt Grain Elevator Demolition
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting, the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission announced the denial of an appeal against the demolition of the grain elevators on Hiawatha Avenue. The appeal, which sought to overturn the commission’s earlier decision approving the demolition, was unsuccessful. Consequently, the demolition will proceed as planned by the developers. This decision was also upheld in a session of the Business, Housing, and Zoning Committee.
In other updates, the commission highlighted the upcoming Minneapolis Preservation Awards set for March 13th at the Capri Theater. This annual event recognizes notable projects within historic districts and will provide an opportunity for the community to celebrate preservation efforts.
Additionally, the commission shared progress on revamping its website, a project aimed at improving public accessibility by rewriting over 200 designated property profiles in plain language. This initiative, completed after nearly a year of collaborative work, now offers clearer descriptions and images available to the public.
