The special education department, led by Generalia, was acknowledged for its active engagement in various activities, including fundraising for the Arc of County and celebrating important dates such as World Down Syndrome Day, diversity, and autism awareness. Initiatives such as t-shirt and lollipop sales, cupcake baking, and a taco chip cookie bake sale not only raised funds but also involved students in enriching community-based instruction trips. These trips aimed to enhance functional skills through practical experiences, such as shopping excursions and restaurant visits, with bowling at the Donad Family Fund Center scheduled as the next activity.

The contribution underlines the school’s engagement with the broader community and The Ark’s wide-ranging services, which include residential housing, recreational activities, family support, adult habilitation, a children’s Saturday program, and its role as a chapter of the Special Olympics of New Jersey.

During the meeting, committee reports covered an array of topics, including curriculum development, policy review, financial operations, and healthcare transitions. Notably, the school was lauded for securing a cash prize of $300 from the Atlantic Cares Turn Your School Wellness into Wealth program, funds earmarked for the promotion of wellness within the school environment.

Operational matters, such as the approval of appointments for the 2024-2025 school year and monthly reports, were conducted with due diligence. A particular point of interest was the conclusion of a grant and the subsequent planning required for staffing in its wake. Additionally, the board approved various consent agenda items, ranging from financial matters to the acknowledgment of a staff member’s retirement.
