New Milford Council Amends Land Use Ordinance, Approves New Fence Regulations
- Meeting Overview:
During a recent New Milford Borough Council meeting, members adopted an ordinance amending land use regulations, specifically addressing front yard setbacks, fence heights, and driveway widths. Under the new rules, six-foot-high fences are now permitted on side yards extending up to the front of a house, although not in front of it. The ordinance had been reviewed and found consistent with the master plan by the planning board before adoption. This change aims to address residents’ queries about fence regulations and is expected to influence future residential property planning.
02:03The council also took time to recognize local youth sports achievements. The 2024 Middlelands Football League Junior Division Champions and the 2025 Bergen Travel Basketball League Champions were honored with presentations celebrating their successful seasons. Coaches and players were acknowledged for their hard work and dedication, with players receiving commendations for their accomplishments.
14:27In environmental efforts, the mayor issued a proclamation declaring April 22, 2025, as Earth Day in New Milford. The proclamation emphasized the importance of protecting biodiversity and highlighted the role of urban areas in sustaining ecological balance. Residents and local institutions are encouraged to engage in activities promoting environmental stewardship on Earth Day.
19:11Additionally, the council discussed upcoming community events, including the Easter Pancake Breakfast, the annual Easter egg hunt, and the Memorial Day parade. These events, organized by various local committees, aim to foster community spirit and engagement.
21:39The meeting also addressed a failed grant application for sports field lighting at Williamsfield, with the administrator seeking feedback on the rejection. Furthermore, the council acknowledged the receipt of a plaque from the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign, recognizing New Milford’s efforts in promoting community health and wellness. The upcoming “Mayor’s Wellness Month” in May will feature events like a hot dog eating contest to continue this focus on community health initiatives.
