In a change for local community groups, the New Ulm Library Board has eliminated rental fees for its meeting rooms as part of an updated policy set to take effect on January 1, 2025. Additionally, the board discussed an upcoming project to replace library doors with the addition of electric strikes for key fob access, contingent upon city council approval. This update aims to enhance security and streamline access to the library facilities.
Noteworthy expenses included a Nintendo switch and accessories to support new video gaming clubs. The library’s innovative approach to programming was also highlighted by the initiation of a Junior Video Gaming Club, which attracted 19 attendees to its first meeting.
The board celebrated the success of the annual used book sale organized by the Friends of the Library, which raised $1,998.
In other updates, the board approved the retirement of the equipment use policy, phasing out rental fees for library equipment. Outdated equipment will be evaluated and removed as necessary to ensure it meets current standards of relevance and quality.
The meeting concluded with a farewell to outgoing board members, who were recognized for their service. Their contributions have been instrumental in guiding the library’s mission and fostering a supportive environment for community learning and engagement.
