New Ulm Library Board Secures Arts Grants and Plans Community Mural Installation
- Meeting Overview:
The New Ulm Public Library has been awarded two arts and cultural heritage fund legacy grants by the Traverse des Sioux Regional Library Board. The grants, totaling $2,800, will facilitate a presentation on Midwest circus legends and the installation of a community collage mural. These initiatives aim to enhance cultural engagement and celebrate community heritage.
The first grant, amounting to $800, will fund a presentation by Chad Lewis on the history of circuses in the Midwest, highlighting legends and folklore. Lewis, known for his extensive research into the paranormal and legendary, is scheduled to speak at the New Ulm Public Library on April 21st. His presentation promises to offer a unique perspective on regional history.
The second grant, valued at $2,000, supports the installation of a community collage mural in the library’s entrance hallway. This mural, a collaborative effort with the Downtown Action Council, will feature portraits of New Ulm residents. The goal is to celebrate the diverse heritage of the community. The mural, printed on removable vinyl banners, will be adaptable for future exhibits.
In addition to these cultural developments, the board also approved a resolution for the disposal of outdated technology and surplus items. Twelve Chromeboxes nearing the end of their support period will be recycled, and three wooden carts previously used for programming will be offered to city departments or sold at a citywide garage sale.
The meeting also highlighted successful library events, such as the Clifford the Big Red Dog birthday party, which saw high attendance and enthusiasm. This reinforces the library’s role as a vibrant community hub, with numerous activities throughout the month that engage local residents.
