The board discussed a new mandate from the New Jersey Department of Education, requiring cursive handwriting instruction for grades three to five in the 2026-2027 school year. They also concluded an ELA task force pilot program and recognized four students at Rutgers University for notable projects.

During the public session, Sean Kim, co-founder and CEO of a local education nonprofit, introduced his organization’s mission to create equitable educational environments through design thinking. Kim shared personal experiences as a low-income student and emphasized co-creating solutions with students and school personnel to address barriers faced by students of color. His eagerness to partner with local districts marked a hopeful note for future collaborations.
