The Council addressed the essential need for hurricane preparedness, reflecting on the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian and the significance of community awareness and readiness for future events. They encouraged residents to maintain emergency kits and stay informed on evacuation routes, shelter locations, and the upcoming Hurricane Supplies Tax Holiday from June 1st to June 14th to purchase necessary supplies.

Furthermore, the meeting recognized the contributions of various city departments in ensuring public safety. Proclamations were made to honor National Public Works Week, Drowning Prevention Awareness Month, Emergency Medical Services Week, National Police Week, and Building Safety Month. These acknowledgments serve as reminders of the roles these departments play in safeguarding the lives and properties of North Port residents.

During the meeting, a public comment was made by a citizen regarding the destruction of walking trails and natural habitats by ATVs on the west side of the city, requesting better enforcement of laws to prevent further damage.

In recognition of dedicated community service, a proclamation was made for an arts center director retiring after years of advocacy for the arts in North Port.
