- Meeting Overview:
On August 24, 2023, the Northvale Public School Board in New Jersey convened for a regular meeting, addressing a agenda that included significant investments in special education, facility use agreements, and community partnerships. The board members in attendance were President Jennifer Venditti, Vice President Nicole Cowley, Jamie Corday, Michele Marinuzzi, and Superintendent Michael Pinajian.
One of the key decisions made during the meeting was the approval of a substantial Special Education tuition contract with the Northern Valley Regional High School Valley Program, totaling $1,183,210.90. This contract will cover the educational needs of twelve students, with additional costs for an aide and tuition for another student.
Superintendent Michael Pinajian reported that most referendum projects were substantially completed, allowing the school year to start on time, with the remaining work scheduled to be completed after hours and on weekends. The board also discussed the application for a tutoring grant, with Principal McGrath spearheading the initiative.
Several other Special Education tuition contracts for the 2023-2024 school year were approved with various Boards of Education, including Closter, Northern Valley Regional High School, and Leonia. The costs of these contracts ranged from $31,952.00 to $59,213.00, each catering to different student needs.
The board approved a series of applications for the use of school property by community groups such as the Northvale Navigators Bible Club, Northvale PTO, and Girl Scout troops. These groups will use the facilities for activities such as meetings, family dances, fall festivals, cookies & cocoa events, winter gift shops, movie nights, talent show rehearsals, and troop meetings throughout the school year.
Financial resolutions were also addressed, with the board approving the appropriation of 2022-2023 Extraordinary Aide, amounting to $229,992, into the 2023-2024 budget. This amount will be allocated across various budget accounts, including tuition, health benefits, legal services, bus admin salary, bus office purch svcs, and contracted services for special education joint agreement.
Several contracts and agreements were approved, including an Annual Contract with Bergen County Special Services for Hospital Instruction and an agreement between the Northvale Board of Education and the Wyckoff YMCA. The latter allows the YMCA to use the school facility for programs before and after normal school hours at a rate of $500.00 per month.
In the policy section, the board approved the second reading of a revised policy and regulation, specifically Policy P2419 and Regulation P2419, related to the School Threat Assessment Team, based on the recommendation of the Superintendent and the Committee on Policies and Regulations.
In the personnel section, the board approved several appointments, including Danielle Runza and Rhonda Ross as leave replacement teachers, Adriana Gianetti as the Girls’ Basketball Coach for the 2023-2024 school year, and Jessica Dimataris and Danielle Runza as National Junior Honor Society Co-Advisors.
During the public comment section, Council Liaison Dom Menafra expressed gratitude to the Board of Education members for the completion of the referendum projects. The meeting concluded at 6:43 PM, with the next regular meeting scheduled for September 21, 2023.
