Ocean City Council Discusses Mental Health Program, Flood Prevention, and Dredging Projects
- Meeting Overview:
In the latest Ocean City Council meeting, discussions included the development of a mental health initiative, updates on flood prevention ordinances, and plans for upcoming dredging projects. Additionally, concerns about local wildlife and infrastructure projects were addressed.
One of the topics of the meeting was the discussion on a new mental health program, which aims to enhance community well-being. This program is expected to cover various aspects such as dietary habits and digital detox strategies, with a targeted launch during Mental Health Awareness Month. The program intends to emulate the successful model used for Special Olympics events in the area, fostering community engagement and support.
The council also deliberated on ordinance number 2410, which involves amending the city’s flood damage prevention measures. This ordinance aims to adopt updated flood hazard maps and designate a floodplain administrator. The updated ordinance was passed unanimously.
Additionally, a portion of the meeting was dedicated to upcoming dredging projects. The city plans to advertise bids for maintenance dredging in certain lagoon areas to maintain optimal navigable conditions. The dredging efforts, part of the adopted Capital plan, are scheduled to begin by the end of October, following bid approvals.
In other matters, council members addressed concerns from residents about the increasing presence of seagulls and electric bikes. While acknowledging these issues, officials emphasized the ongoing efforts to manage and mitigate such community concerns. The responsiveness of local authorities to reported wildlife disturbances was highlighted, with actions taken promptly upon notification.
Infrastructure projects, such as the Maran Park development at 35th Street and Bay Avenue, were also discussed. Despite the temporary disruptions caused by construction, the project is progressing efficiently, promising significant enhancements upon completion. The council expressed appreciation for residents’ patience during this period.
