Oradell School Board Approves New Assistant Principals
- Meeting Overview:
The Oradell School Board meeting focused on the approval of two new assistant principals for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, a decision that stemmed from an extensive selection process involving 135 applicants. Amy Brado, the current director of curriculum, was appointed as the assistant principal for grades K through 3, a role which has been updated from its previous K through 2 scope. The second appointee, Nevan Warner, will serve as the assistant principal for grades 4 through 6, bringing his experience as a supervisor of science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, and assessment from River Edge.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that the first round of interviews included 19 candidates and was conducted by two individuals, followed by a second round that involved parents and staff members volunteering approximately nine hours of their time. The two final candidates were unanimously chosen by the committee. The community was assured that both Brado and Warner are exceptional additions to the team, with Brado recognized for her tireless work ethic and deep involvement in curriculum development. Warner is expected to contribute to the growth of mathematical practices and technology integration within the district.
Aside from the assistant principal announcements, the school board addressed ongoing projects and initiatives. Construction on a roof project has begun, with summer projects also underway, including bidding for the replacement of the kindergarten HVAC unit. The board was briefed on the active use of school facilities during the summer, with programs such as “All the World’s a Stage” and recreational camps taking place, as well as the introduction of 80 Kinder campers and about 117 exploration students to the school.
The meeting also touched upon the recent sixth-grade commencement, noting its traditional significance and success despite the hot weather. Details on the smooth transition of students stepping up into new classrooms and the integration of innovative approaches in early grades were shared.
Furthermore, it was mentioned that the school does not slow down after the academic year ends, underlined by the substantial personnel agenda put forward, which included several new hires. Members expressed anticipation for the upcoming year and the impact of these hires on the school community.
The meeting concluded with reminders about the forthcoming town parade, encouraging board members to participate and coordinate logistics like candy purchasing and attire. However, it was noted that not all members would be able to attend due to prior commitments.
