At the forefront of the board’s agenda was the rezoning application PB 2409 for a property on Krill Avenue, which drew notable public interest. The applicant, George Shag, requested the rezoning of the property from residential single-family R1A to two-family residential R2 to maintain three existing rental units. Notably, several community members, including Mary Shackleford and Lagra Kitens, questioned the adequacy of communication to property owners regarding zoning rules at the time of purchase. The board eventually voted unanimously to recommend the rezoning.

Another topic discussed during the meeting was a request to establish a conditional use for the Bert Hodge American Legion Post number 45. Represented by Jim Trano, the applicant sought to utilize a vacant structure for the organization’s women’s auxiliary meetings. The board deliberated on the conditional use requirements, focusing on updates to parking, ADA compliance, and the placement of trash pickup locations. The board granted the conditional use with the specified conditions.

The scope of the conditional use approval sparked a discussion, as a community member questioned whether the approval was limited to the American Legion Post’s use or if it would extend to other potential uses classified under conditional use. The City attorney was requested to review the code to provide clarity on this matter.

Additionally, the board addressed a request for annexation, which was tabled until the next meeting due to the acquisition of additional property for the project.

The agenda also included a presentation on the PAC Mall final plat. Anticipating unresolved issues, the board proactively tableed the case to the next meeting in July.

During the meeting, board members took a moment to express their gratitude for staff contributions. Praise was given to a staff member for exceptional dedication during a challenging transition period and for the expertise provided by another staff member in managing complex plats.
