- Meeting Overview:
The Pasack Valley School Board recently prioritized student accomplishments, infrastructure projects, and important budgetary decisions in their latest meeting. High-performing students were recognized for their academic achievements and community contributions, while discussions about crucial infrastructure and budgetary decisions highlighted the board’s focus on improving school facilities and financial management.
In the meeting, the board spent significant time recognizing the exceptional academic accomplishments of several students. Amanda Pinc and Fred Lim from Pasack Valley High School were applauded for their completion of the challenging Governor’s School of New Jersey program in The Sciences. The board also celebrated students from Pasack Hills High School who were identified as Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars with Distinction, AP Scholars with Honor, and AP Scholars, based on their noteworthy scores on AP exams.
Adding to the commendations, students from both Pasack Valley and Pasack Hills High Schools were recognized as AP Scholars, a testament to their dedication and academic prowess. A special mention was made for students who were identified as semi-finalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship program, placing among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition. An official board resolution was passed to recognize these high-achievers.
Furthermore, the board acknowledged the acceptance of several students from Pasack Hills High School into the prestigious 2023-24 Bergen County Choir. This elite choir, made up of the county’s finest singers, is scheduled to perform at Bergenfield High School in January 2024. In recognition of this honor, the board passed a resolution to commend these students.
Shifting attention from student achievements, the board also addressed infrastructure projects. Superintendent Error highlighted ongoing concerns about soil erosion at the school track. It was revealed that removing the bleachers for soil erosion mitigation was necessary, with the project slated to commence in about a year. Questions arose regarding who would shoulder responsibility for potential track damage due to the project, prompting the board to follow up on this matter.
In the realm of sports, the board discussed the girls’ wrestling team, specifically the hiring of a part-time coach and the possibility of transitioning this role to a full-time position, contingent on increased female participation in the sport.
Finance-related matters also took center stage during the meeting. The board reviewed recommendations from the finance committee to allocate surplus funds to reserve accounts and the 2024-25 budget. This strategic financial decision aims to secure the school’s funds and ensure efficient budget allocation.
In a move to expand the school’s facilities, consent agenda items were approved, including the purchase of a property for the Milestones program and an application to purchase land adjacent to Hills High School.
