Pierz City Council Backs Emergency Fund and New Hiring Amid Key Approvals
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Pierz City Council meeting, the council approved the establishment of an emergency fund and authorized new seasonal hires. Key decisions included planning approvals for Holy Trinity School’s expansion and adjustments to city meeting times, highlighting the council’s focus on growth and operational efficiency.
08:39The council voted to establish an emergency fund aimed at addressing potential natural disasters such as tornadoes. The fund will start with $100,000 and aims to increase by the same amount annually until it reaches approximately $500,000. This decision required unanimous approval from all five council members.
02:36In addition to the emergency fund, the council approved the hiring of several workers for the upcoming season, including returning workers Maddie Hoisel and Lindsay Strow, and new hires Kylie Pman, Kin Shery, and Andy Lighten Frost.
03:59Another approval was for Holy Trinity School’s expansion plans. The school intends to build additional facilities, including a cafeteria and an elevator, and remodel the gym. This expansion is set to occur near the playground adjacent to the graveyard.
06:02The council also addressed scheduling conflicts by deciding to move their meetings back to 7:00 PM, while Planning and Zoning meetings will begin at 6:15 PM. This change aims to accommodate the Planning and Zoning group, allowing them more time to prepare without the need to leave work early.
City contributions to the Pierz Fire Department were confirmed, with a budget allocation of $144,300 to cover 26 firefighters. This move supports local emergency services.
Additional resolutions included updates to the fee schedule for peddlers, solicitors, and transient merchants, providing a clearer framework for permitting such activities within the city. The council also discussed an ongoing review of insurance options for first responders.
