Planning Underway for Hanover’s 350th Anniversary Parade and Celebration
- Meeting Overview:
During the Hanover Town Council meeting on November 13, 2025, the primary focus was on the preparations for Hanover Township’s 350th-anniversary parade and celebration, slated for July 2, 2026. The committee engaged in discussions about logistics, partnerships with local organizations, and community involvement in the upcoming event. Additionally, the meeting addressed other topics, including the introduction of a new ordinance related to towing services, successful labor negotiations with the police department, and the approval of resolutions and financial matters.
The anniversary celebration discussions were led by representatives Blanch Lopez and Mark Morosano, who presented a plan for the event. They emphasized the significance of aligning the township’s 350th anniversary with the United States’ 250th anniversary, proposing a parade to coincide with the fireworks display. Morosano highlighted the need for logistical support, including police assistance for street closures and traffic management, as well as EMT services for safety purposes. He also proposed a budget of $4,000 to $5,000 for logistical needs, such as a tent for displays.
The community’s engagement was a focal point, with suggestions for a patriotic bicycle decoration activity for children, recalling past positive experiences with similar events. The committee members showed enthusiasm and support for the parade, recognizing it as an opportunity to enhance the day’s festivities. Morosano also suggested partnering with local organizations, like the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Shriners, to enrich the parade with participants such as a Town Crier and Bag Pipers.
The committee members appeared receptive to these plans, acknowledging the importance of the anniversary celebration and the need for further discussions as the event date approached. The call for volunteers to assist with the event’s organization was also emphasized.
In addition to the anniversary plans, the meeting saw the introduction of Ordinance 30-2025, which seeks to repeal and replace Chapter 255 of the township code concerning towing and road service. This ordinance is scheduled for a public hearing on December 11, 2025. The committee unanimously approved the ordinance’s introduction.
Another achievement highlighted during the meeting was the successful negotiation of a contract with the township’s Police Benevolent Association (PBA). This marked the first time in many years that an agreement was reached before the expiration of the existing contract. The swift negotiation process was seen as a positive development in labor relations, contributing to the stability of local governance.
The committee also handled an extensive number of resolutions, approving resolutions numbered 205-2025 through 225-2025, along with an additional resolution, 226-2025, concerning the compensation rates for the Board of Fire Commissioners for 2026. These resolutions were unanimously approved in a show of collective agreement among the committee members.
Financial matters were addressed, including the approval of bills totaling $9,410,481.24. The approval process was swift, receiving unanimous consent from the committee. Furthermore, raffle applications from the Whippany Park PTO and Harmonium Choral Society were approved, supporting local organizations in their fundraising efforts.
The meeting also touched upon upcoming community events, including a colonial-themed concert by the Hanover Wind Symphony on June 14, featuring local performances such as a choir and a color guard. Emphasis was placed on publicizing the concert, with a suggestion to share details on the township’s website.
Road repairs were discussed, with plans to address the top portion of Horse Hills Road and Algonquin Parkway before winter, contingent on favorable weather conditions. The Environmental Commission’s recent tree giveaway program was noted for its success, alongside the publication of the “Hanover Green” report, which provides updates on environmental initiatives.
