The Board meeting commenced with public comments where concerns about educational support services were raised, alongside the recruitment of a transportation person and the logistics of transporting student athletes to competitions. These concerns set the stage for a discussion on operational issues within the district.

The Superintendent presented updates on district activities, proudly noting the celebration of Read Across America, Black History Month, and various academic events. The atmosphere was one of acknowledgment as students of the month from different schools were recognized for their excellence, and students receiving the Seal of Biliteracy were individually applauded and presented with certificates. The Board highlighted the supervisor’s key role in the students’ achievement and the benefits of bilingualism were emphasized.

The Board also recognized several staff members, celebrating custodians, a paraprofessional, and teachers as employees of the month for their contributions to the district.

Financial performance was another focal point, with the presentation of the audit by Ford Scott revealing a near $5 million increase in the general fund balance and the district reaching a debt-free status following the final payment on a building. The Food Service fund also saw an increase in its fund balance. The Board approved the audit report and welcomed a new member, Ms. Waters, with the oath of office administered during the meeting.

Further discussions covered the extended school year summer program and the summer academic enrichment care and sports programs. The Board sought clarification on enrollment procedures and the dissemination of information to parents, with assurances given by the Administration that transport would be provided for eligible students and that details would be shared post-approval.

The Board also approved various matters concerning finance, transportation, facilities, policy, and curriculum and instruction without debate.

In the public comments section, board members and attendees expressed gratitude, with particular attention to Women’s Month and the acknowledgment of the hard work and responsibility entailed in district decision-making. The call for unity and improved collaboration was a recurring theme, with members encouraged to work together for the betterment of the community.
