The City Manager announced the approval of demolition projects for two properties, 5121 B’s Court and Limestone Drive, that had been identified as part of the city’s slum and blight process. Both properties were deemed unsafe and deteriorated after going through due process, including notices and opportunities for appeal, which the property owners did not pursue. The City received multiple quotes for the demolition, with SC Signature Construction providing the lowest responsible bids of $7,200 for each project. The demolitions will include debris removal and adhering to environmental precautions.

In addition to demolition discussions, the City Manager reported the hiring of Derek Smith as the new CRA Coordinator and Resiliency Coordinator. Smith, who has a background in emergency management from the City of Clearwater, is expected to start at the end of the month. The city is also filling a hybrid building inspector and code enforcement position to address current staffing needs due to an extended absence of a permit technician.

The agency also discussed potential marketing initiatives using funds from Pasco County’s co-op program. The goal is to help businesses promote themselves and the city by offering financial support for advertising that includes city logos or promotional content. A member expressed interest in exploring how CRA funds could be used for marketing, although it’s unclear if these funds can be directed toward such efforts under current regulations.
