Princeton Historic Preservation Commission Bids Farewell to Long-Serving Members
- Meeting Overview:
In an eventful Princeton Historic Preservation Commission meeting on December 15, 2025, two significant departures were announced: Elizabeth Kim, the Historic Preservation Officer for over a decade, and Ed Schmeir, the legal advisor for more than 40 years, both concluded their tenures. Their contributions were commemorated with resolutions acknowledging their dedication and impact on Princeton’s preservation efforts.
Elizabeth Kim was celebrated for her extensive service since November 2014. Under her leadership, the commission achieved state and national recognition for projects like the restoration of Princeton’s Stony Brook Bridge. Her commitment to historic preservation and professionalism was highlighted in a resolution, expressing gratitude for her invaluable service. Kim expressed her appreciation for the commission members, emphasizing the collaborative efforts that contributed to preserving Princeton’s historical integrity.
Alongside Kim, Ed Schmeir’s departure marked the end of an era. Serving as legal counsel since the 1980s, Schmeir was recognized for his deep understanding of municipal and land use law. His guidance was described as thoughtful and clear, essential in navigating complex historic preservation issues. Though absent from the meeting, Schmeir was honored with a resolution acknowledging his service and expressing the commission’s sincere gratitude.
The meeting also introduced Sarah Quinnland as the new Historic Preservation Officer, promising continuity in the commission’s efforts. The transition was welcomed, with an emphasis on maintaining a collaborative partnership to advance Princeton’s historic preservation initiatives.
