Sergeant Michael Light was also promoted, with his achievements in both education and fieldwork highlighted during the ceremony. Light’s notable actions include rescuing an individual from a car fire, and his roles have spanned from field training officer to a member of the Somerset County SWAT team. The community expressed pride and gratitude for his contributions to public safety.

The introduction of Officer Brandon Peralta, who is currently training at the Morris County Police Academy, marked another notable moment. Peralta’s background includes ten years in the U.S. Air Force, specializing in physical security and law enforcement. He holds degrees from the Community College of the Air Force, the University of Arizona, and the University of New Haven. His diverse experience and education are expected to be valuable assets as he begins his law enforcement career in Bridgewater.

The swearing-in ceremony also retroactively recognized four officers introduced earlier in the year: Jonathan Quetzel, Lawrence “LJ” Raboli, Elijah Barnwell, and Jake Se. The mayor emphasized the importance of public safety and encouraged the new recruits to uphold these standards.

Beyond the police department advancements, the council addressed several key resolutions. Notably, the township introduced an ordinance for the sale of property to Triple C Housing Inc. for affordable housing development aimed at serving special needs populations.

The council also approved a contract with Topline Construction Corp for roadway improvements on Perini Road, Davis Court, Biddle Court, and Weaver Drive. This project, part of the 2024-6 roadway improvement initiative, was funded through the Capital Road Fund and came in under budget, reflecting favorable contractor interest and competitive pricing.

In addition, the council dealt with resolutions regarding the acquisition of a hook lift truck chassis and an upfit accessory package, both funded through the sewer capital accounts. The truck’s versatility was noted as a significant advantage for the township’s operational needs.

Another resolution involved the transfer of a liquor license from YC Encar Corp to RRD and S Investments LLC, which plans to continue operating the facility under the new name Martinsville Gardens. The council expressed appreciation for the investors’ financial commitment to the Bridgewater community.
