- Meeting Overview:
In a recent meeting of the Ramsey Borough Council, the high school soccer teams were honored for their outstanding season, and progress was reported on the design for the new fire department rescue squad and OEM Station House. The meeting also touched on numerous local initiatives and events, including a special permit for Boy Scout Troop 31, a procession in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the upcoming Home for the Holidays parade.
Councilwoman Judy Cusick made a motion for a special recognition of Ramsey High School soccer teams. The Junior Varsity (JV) girls’ soccer team, the Varsity girls’ and boys’ teams, were lauded for their impressive achievements. The JV team went undefeated and won the JV County tournament, while the Varsity girls’ team secured several titles, including Patriot League Champs and Group Two North State Champs. The Varsity boys’ team also had a victorious season, winning the league title, County Championship, and state championships. Council members individually congratulated the players and coaches, presenting certificates to each team member.
Among the several updates provided during the meeting, the most significant was given by the borough administrator, Mr. Oose, who discussed the ongoing development of the new fire department rescue squad and OEM Station House. He informed the council that they had met with Neta Architects and the building committee before Thanksgiving to provide input on specific design areas. Oose revealed that a comprehensive review of the design development and construction documents was scheduled for January 2024. A dedicated webpage containing the plans and related information was also set up on the borough’s website to keep the community informed of the project’s progress.
Councilwoman Jane Woods reflected on the achievements of the soccer teams, emphasizing the unique character of Ramsey as a small school producing numerous state champions. She also acknowledged Ryan Lowski’s departure and thanked Alexandra Wils and Evan Lazarat for organizing a powerful rally called “Bring Them Home Now” in Ramsey on November 16th.
Various council members, including Judy Cusick, Sara Poppe, and Glen Popolo, echoed the congratulations to the soccer teams and provided updates on their respective responsibilities. They also praised Lola Callahan Santos and Francesca M for their appointments to the Ramsey rescue squad. Updates on the lead service line replacement project, the ongoing leaf removal program, the Ramsey Wildlife Garden, and the community compost initiative were also discussed.
Mayor Dillon expressed her admiration for the community’s ability to produce two state championships in one season. She updated the council on ongoing renovations at the library, the jewelry sale by the Friends of the Ramsey Library, and the holiday decorations prepared by the DPW. She also acknowledged Ryan Lukowski’s resignation from the DPW and thanked him for his service.
