During the meeting, representatives from 1330 Main LLC, Ranken Patel and Ankit Kumar Patel, explained the necessity of the permit transfer following their recent purchase of the mobile gas station. They highlighted the financial burden that delaying the transfer until January would impose on their business. The Patels confirmed they had acquired all necessary permits except for the tobacco sales permit and had temporarily ceased the sale of nicotine products until the permit was granted.

The Board members inquired about the Patels’ familiarity with Reading’s tobacco regulations, particularly the “no nicotine generation” rule, which prohibits the sale of tobacco and nicotine products to individuals born after January 1, 2004. The Patels assured the Board of their compliance, detailing their use of a point-of-sale system that verifies customer ages through ID scanning, and confirmed that all signage and employee training were consistent with local laws.

A Health Department official confirmed a recent visit to the site to ensure compliance and recommended the Board approve the permit transfer. The Board voted unanimously to approve the transfer, effective immediately, allowing the Patels to resume sales of nicotine products without delay.
