The project, supported by the Reading Public Library Foundation, aims to enhance the library’s outdoor space. Positive feedback has been received from patrons, noting the quick progress of the construction. This addition is anticipated to provide a valuable new amenity for library visitors.

In policy matters, the board approved revisions to the policy on distribution, posting, and collection of materials. The updated policy aims to streamline processes related to how materials are managed within the library. Additionally, a review of the gift policy was conducted, with particular attention to the clarity of references to the Friends of the Reading Public Library, Inc. The board determined that the current terminology was sufficiently clear.

Financially, the library’s FY26 budget remains on track, with plans for the FY27 draft budget to be presented in December. This will include any changes or recommendations for the upcoming fiscal year. Routine donations, such as those from regular contributor Marielle Downey, continue to support library operations.

The board also discussed personnel changes, notably the departure of Andrea Fillo, who has accepted a new role at the Cambridge Public Library. Her contributions were recognized, and a farewell event is planned to celebrate her service. Ashley Cristiano has been appointed as a librarian for reference and adult services, filling a vital role within the library.

Community engagement remains a focus, with recent events like the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and flu clinics receiving positive feedback. New initiatives such as one-on-one technology help appointments have been introduced, with staff participating in professional development opportunities.
