Despite some progress, such as obtaining a permit to move a wall and advancements in fire alarm systems, several conditions remained unmet.

The discussion centered on whether to defer the issuance of a Class II license until full compliance was achieved across all parcels involved. A commissioner questioned the steps taken since the last meeting to expedite the compliance process. Clay Sernagler, husband of the business’s representative, detailed efforts to finalize plans and secure necessary permits. The timeline for compliance became a key point of debate, with the Commission ultimately deciding to adjourn the hearing for 60 days. This extension aims to provide the property owner sufficient time to address the outstanding issues, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for July 15.

During the hearing, the Commission also examined concerns about the number of vehicles allowed on the property.

Following the Atlantic Auto Body discussion, the Commission reviewed several applications for event licenses. Notably, a series of one-day common victual licenses were approved for Boston Harley-Davidson, which plans to host community cookouts throughout the summer. The events are expected to draw around 100 attendees each, focusing on community engagement without alcohol service.

Daniel Lewis presented another application related to the Harley-Davidson location, seeking a license for a motorcycle and boxing rally scheduled for June 7. The event anticipates 300 attendees and will feature 15 sanctioned boxing bouts, food trucks, and a DJ. The Commission discussed safety measures, including the need for police presence to manage the crowd and ensure security, ultimately approving the application after confirming adequate arrangements for law enforcement and medical support.

Furthermore, representatives from the Mayor’s office sought approval for a series of one-day malt wine licenses for a World Cup soccer viewing event at the Yard at Suffolk Downs. The event, dubbed a “field of play series,” is expected to attract 2,000 attendees over several dates. The Commission inquired about the police detail required, with assurances that staffing would be sufficient to maintain order. The application was approved following confirmation of the event’s safety and logistical plans.

Additionally, the Commission considered an application from the American Legion Post 61 for eight one-day malt, wine, and common victual licenses for fundraising events coinciding with city concerts. The application received community support, and the Commission approved the licenses, continuing a tradition of successful events in previous years.

The meeting also addressed a transfer of an all-alcohol package store license for Cappy Fine Wine and Spirits. The Commission approved the application, appreciating the retention of the current manager, Bridget Anne Herd, and expressing confidence in her capabilities.

A unique application from Atonia Nail and Beauty LLC sought approval for a wine, malt, and cordial license to offer complimentary alcoholic beverages to salon patrons. The Commission emphasized the importance of responsible alcohol service and approved the application contingent upon obtaining TIP certification.

Finally, Cheryl Queen’s application for a stationary mobile food vendor license for Twist and Shake was approved. The Commission also approved an application for Bailey Gusto LLC to serve non-alcoholic beverages at the beach, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance local amenities.
