Revere License Commission Tackles Auto Body Violations Amid New Business Approvals
- Meeting Overview:
During the latest Revere License Commission meeting, the focus was on addressing safety code violations at Atlantic Auto Body, Inc. , while also approving new business licenses for local establishments. Discussions revealed ongoing compliance challenges for Atlantic Auto Body, Inc., which must rectify fire and building safety issues, and highlighted community support for new ventures such as Souza Italian Pizzeria and a mobile food vendor.
The meeting’s most discussion centered around Atlantic Auto Body, Inc., managed by Anorita F. Saglia and owned by Clay Saraglia. The hearing scrutinized the business for alleged violations of fire and building safety codes and inadequate facilities for the licensed number of cars. A special permit issued three years ago required compliance with fire department evaluations and prohibited junk car storage, conditions that Saraglia has struggled to meet. The Deputy Chief emphasized the necessity for a comprehensive business plan to ensure compliance, highlighting the need for safe egress paths and adherence to fire safety codes.
Lieutenant Larry’s inspection uncovered multiple code violations and issues with the special permit, although Saraglia had begun efforts to clean up the property. Notably, he ceased using the rear space while awaiting resolution. Despite some progress, the Deputy Chief questioned the property’s capacity to support the 60 vehicles it was licensed for, considering the current state of the premises.
The Licensing Commission discussed the urgency of Saraglia developing a plans, including vehicle placement and designated areas for repair and sales. The Deputy Chief recommended consulting with an architect and fire protection engineer to devise a viable solution. Commissioners agreed to table the discussion for one month, allowing Saraglia to present the required documentation and compliance plans. An extension was supported to provide Saraglia time to meet the necessary standards.
In contrast to the challenges faced by Atlantic Auto Body, Inc., the Commission granted approvals for several new business applications. Souza Italian Pizzeria, Inc., managed by Dimas Souza Filo, received a common victualer license to operate on Washington Avenue. Filo confirmed the pizzeria would serve pizzas and general food, with operating hours from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. from Monday through Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday. With no objections from the public, the motion to approve the license was passed.
Similarly, Anthony Savio Kagleandro’s application for a one-day mobile food vendor license was approved for the Revere High School Fieldhouse during an international martial arts event. Kagleandro, co-owner of Bono Appetite, assured the Commission of plans to manage food distribution to avoid congestion. Emphasizing healthy food options, Kagleandro highlighted past successful events at the venue. The motion to approve the two one-day licenses was unopposed and passed.
The transfer of an all-alcohol restaurant license for Uno Chicago Grill on Squire Road was also approved. Amalia Corome, the manager, outlined her extensive experience with UNO Corp and plans for renovation, including repainting, structural repairs, and modernizing media systems. Community members expressed strong support for the restaurant’s reopening, with public testimonials commending Corome’s management. Approval was granted after clarifying no changes to existing hours or entertainment options, which include cable TV, radio, DJ, and karaoke.
In addition to these applications, the Commission reviewed communications regarding applications with the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. Notably, there was a notification of no action on an application from MIBA DBA POLO2 and an approval for a license transfer for Royale Kitchen and Bar Inc. An advisory was issued concerning non-consensual drugging incidents at licensed premises, underscoring ongoing safety concerns in the local nightlife scene.
