Revere License Commission Tackles Noise Complaints and Approves New Restaurant Licenses
- Meeting Overview:
The Revere License Commission meeting focused on approving various restaurant licenses and addressing noise complaints related to entertainment establishments. Key discussions included the approval of a mobile food vendor license for a large event, a change of manager application for a restaurant, and concerns about noise and crowd management at a local entertainment venue.
A major topic of discussion was the ongoing noise issues at the Oceanside Event Center, which has been a source of complaints from nearby residents. A representative from the establishment acknowledged the challenges in managing noise and crowd behavior, particularly during the summer months when events are more frequent. The venue can host up to a thousand people, creating congestion at a single exit point, which exacerbates noise complaints. The representative explained that while police officers are present during events, their effectiveness in managing the exit process has been limited, often remaining inside the venue until the crowd disperses.
The commission explored potential strategies to improve crowd management, such as utilizing police vehicles with flashing lights to expedite the movement of cars and enhance coordination with local law enforcement. The representative emphasized their commitment to addressing residents’ concerns and expressed a willingness to work with the community to mitigate these issues. However, the commission expressed concern that unresolved issues could lead to further scrutiny or actions affecting the establishment’s operations.
In addition to the noise concerns, the commission reviewed several restaurant license applications. One notable application was from Lumina Lounge LLC, which sought to transform the former Sami’s Patio into a restaurant serving Colombian and Latin American cuisine. Attorney Patrick McDonald represented the applicant, outlining their vision for the establishment and the proposed hours of operation, which included entertainment options such as a DJ, karaoke, and dancing. The commission approved the application contingent upon resolving a citizenship issue with one of the LLC’s members.
The meeting also addressed an application from Urban Enbal Restaurant Consulting Corporation for a wine and malt beverage license for a new American restaurant on Broadway.
Another application involved Peros Pasus Riv Corporation, seeking a similar liquor license for their establishment on Beach Street. The manager clarified that the restaurant aimed to provide a family-friendly environment, despite concerns about the potential impact of serving alcohol on parking issues. After hearing no opposition, the commission voted to approve the license.
The commission also heard from representatives of RK and Eorp, doing business as BK’s Bar and Grill, regarding violations related to an unauthorized transfer of ownership and the lack of an approved license manager. Legal representatives updated the commission on the probate status of the previous owners and discussed the possibility of addressing the managerial issue separately to ensure compliance with the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC).
Lastly, the commission reviewed a one-day mobile food vendor license application for the “Rivier Beach Winter Wonderland” event, expected to attract around 5,000 attendees. The application was approved without any concerns from the commissioners. Additionally, a change of manager application for “to1 Margaritas Mexican Restaurant” was approved, with Susan Marie Jimenez taking over management responsibilities.
