Roxbury Town Council Approves 2025 Budget with No Tax Increase for Residents
- Meeting Overview:
In an important development for residents, the Roxbury Town Council approved the 2025 municipal budget without any increase in taxes for the upcoming year. This budget was described as responsible and comprehensive, reflecting careful consideration and collaboration among council members.
The adopted budget outlines specific allocations, including $23,662,024 for municipal purposes, $435,889 for the Open Space Recreation Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund levy, and $1,657,254 for the library tax. Council members emphasized their dedication to creating a balanced budget that meets the community’s needs without imposing additional financial burdens on residents.
Another topic discussed at the meeting was the introduction of an ordinance to establish a no-parking zone on the west side of Richard’s Avenue. This proposal emerged from resident concerns regarding traffic safety and accessibility. The traffic committee recommended the ordinance after a review by the police department. The council plans to revisit the ordinance for further discussion in the coming weeks.
The meeting also highlighted upcoming community events, including the pathways of history tour, a repair café hosted by the library, and a senior citizen dance, all scheduled for May 3rd. Additionally, the council announced that a mobile motor vehicle unit would be visiting Roxbury on May 22nd, with appointments opening on April 25th.
In other discussions, council members mentioned the state’s allocation of $5 million to support businesses affected by Route 80 construction. The funding process, organized by zip codes, is intended to assist local businesses experiencing reduced patronage due to traffic disruptions.
The council also addressed several public improvement ordinances, including enhancements to the water and sewer systems, totaling over $1 million in appropriations from the respective utility capital improvement funds. These projects aim to ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of essential services for residents.
Finally, the council recognized two Eagle Scouts, Nicholas and Austin, for their contributions to the community through projects at local sites. Their efforts were commended, and they were presented with certificates of recognition.
