Discussions at the meeting highlighted the financial planning involved in these projects. A resolution concerning the special election was attached to the agenda, and information about the tax impacts related to the projects was made available for review. An electrical upgrade needed to accommodate a new HVAC system led to an increase in project costs by approximately $350,000. The board debated contingencies concerning the review and comment document, which was submitted before the MEA break on October 17 and is currently under a 60-day review period by the Minnesota Department of Education.

The financial aspects of the meeting were further underscored by a report on the Capital fund, which has seen about 62% of its budget spent. This expenditure is largely due to a technology refresh that involved the purchase of new one-to-one devices for students in grades 6 through 12, and a refresh of staff resources over the summer. To offset these costs, approximately $700,000 was generated from selling older devices to a third-party vendor, and an additional $1.1 million was received from the Emergency Connectivity Fund through eRate.

In other business, the board received a report from Angela Saffron, principal of Sartell Middle School, who presented the Saber Star report. Fol was recognized for her dedication to the social, emotional, and academic growth of her students, as well as her support for colleagues. This recognition was met with appreciation from the board, acknowledging her leadership and commitment.

The superintendent’s report focused on the achievements of the first 100 days in office, which included meeting with 108 community members to identify the district’s strengths and areas for improvement. The feedback praised the dedicated staff and strong academic programs while also pointing out the need for better communication with the community and prioritizing facility upgrades. The superintendent also discussed updated evaluation tools for principals and directors and introduced additional mental health services through a partnership with Greater Minnesota Family Services.

Recognition was also given to Carrie Frederickson, a high school social studies teacher, who received the 2024 Regional Earl Ream Award for her commitment to student leadership. Additionally, Andrew Burnt, a junior at Sartell High School, was commended for qualifying for the state cross country meet, an achievement that generated enthusiasm among attendees.

The meeting concluded with the unanimous approval of policies 206 and 504, and a motion to adjourn was passed without dissent. Upcoming meetings include a future board work session scheduled for November 7 and the next board meeting set for November 18.
