Scholarships Totaling Over $350,000 Awarded to Middleborough Graduating Seniors
- Meeting Overview:
At the recent Middleborough School Committee meeting, the spotlight was firmly on the achievements of graduating seniors, with a remarkable $350,000 in scholarships awarded to support their future educational endeavors.
A key highlight of the event was the staggering total value of scholarships exceeding $350,000, with more than $315,500 designated for current seniors. The remaining amounts provided support for alumni and Middleborough residents attending other institutions. This substantial financial aid was made possible through the collaboration of families, friends, and sponsors.
In a strategic move to accommodate the school’s baseball team, which had advanced to a state championship tournament, the meeting schedule was adjusted. The five senior members of the team were called to the stage first to receive their scholarships, allowing them to participate in the awards ceremony before heading to their crucial game. Each athlete was individually recognized, with detailed biographical information shared along with the announcement of their scholarships. Among them, Anthony Prrisco, Logan Singleton, Nolan Troier, Eric Wanki, and Tyler Zamora were celebrated for their athletic prowess and academic achievements, with scholarships from various community organizations supporting their future studies in business, legal studies, and other fields.
Beyond the baseball team, the meeting celebrated a diverse group of seniors for their academic and extracurricular accomplishments. Notable mentions included Gracie Assant, ranked third in her class, who received the Oakpoint Homeowners Scholarship for her involvement in tennis and orientation programs. Trey Baker, Nathan Baldwin, and McKenzie Bar Romeo were among others recognized for their academic excellence and leadership, each receiving multiple scholarships for their respective fields of study, ranging from finance to nursing.
The meeting also highlighted the achievements of Annabelle, a standout student involved in student council and various honor societies. Annabelle will pursue theater studies at Wagner College, supported by the Adelia Richard scholarship and the Travis Albert Circle of Friends Memorial Scholarship. Similarly, Kendra, an athlete in soccer and basketball, will study criminal justice at Bridgewater State University, receiving the Elizabeth Kushman scholarship.
Throughout the evening, the committee continued to recognize the impressive array of seniors, including Jackson Collins, the student representative to the School Committee, who plans to pursue mechanical engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Natalie Corey, president of the class, was recognized for her involvement in the arts and will study criminology at Framingham State University. Each student’s future path was supported by multiple scholarships.
An extensive list of scholarship recipients followed, with students preparing to attend institutions across the country, from the University of Massachusetts campuses to Northeastern University and beyond. Among these was Mason Tacera, salutatorian of the class, who will attend Brown University for statistics, supported by the Albert A. Ruth W. Thomas Scholarship Fund and others.
The meeting was punctuated by moments of gratitude, as seniors were encouraged to express thanks to their scholarship sponsors. They were instructed to check their gift bags for green slips indicating the presence of sponsors, facilitating a post-meeting meet-and-greet for photos. Those without green slips were invited to a celebratory rotunda gathering with refreshments.
