This initiative covers projects such as grading, resurfacing, drainage improvements, culvert replacements, and enhancements to stormwater management systems. The underlying goal is to improve water quality and reduce peak discharge rates while maintaining existing infrastructure. Participants emphasized the necessity of clear definitions for resource areas and the importance of avoiding impacts on perennial streams and priority habitats.

The discussion on the bundled NOI also touched on the importance of collaboration between the Conservation Commission and the Department of Public Works (DPW). It was agreed that the DPW should provide an annual list of planned activities to the commission, facilitating the identification of sensitive areas that may be impacted. Erosion and sediment controls were emphasized, along with the need for appropriate debris management. Additionally, the commission expressed concerns about the delineation of wetland resource areas, advocating for formal field determinations to ensure compliance with local regulations.

The meeting also included a review of the Eversource project, which involves vegetation removal along power line corridors. The Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) application submitted by Eversource was discussed, along with the potential for mitigation projects. Concerns were raised about a property on Wendell Road that a resident wishes to preserve, and its suitability for mitigation purposes given existing conservation easements. The commission expressed optimism that their list of mitigation project suggestions would provide Eversource with viable options for funding.

Other topics included updates on various grant applications and the potential use of Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds for the Southbrook project. The commission reviewed the possibility of addressing erosion issues on local gravel roads as part of their mitigation efforts, with particular focus on Montu Road and Wendell Road. The Town Lake Wyola erosion subcommittee’s ongoing efforts were also noted in this context.
