Southwick Council on Aging Implements Cost-Saving Digital Newsletter Distribution
- Meeting Overview:
The Southwick Council on Aging discussed various initiatives during the recent meeting, focusing on improving communication and community engagement while managing costs. The council is transitioning from physical mail to digital distribution for its newsletters. This change is expected to result in more efficient and timely communication with the council’s audience.
To address the rising costs associated with mailing nearly 955 newsletters, the council is encouraging recipients to opt for email delivery. This move is designed to streamline operations and ensure that residents receive timely information without incurring additional expenses. The council is reaching out to individuals to collect email addresses, making the newsletters more accessible and environmentally friendly.
In addition to digital distribution efforts, the council highlighted the growing participation in community activities. Attendance for exercise classes is between 90 to 100 people, and the newly introduced gym has 20 regular users. Plans are underway to introduce a new yoga class at the town beach during the summer, with a focus on increasing community engagement. The council is also considering classes that involve families, depending on interest levels.
In preparation for the holiday season, the council is organizing a Christmas party with an impressive sign-up of over 80 participants. Raffle prizes are being gathered, and thank-you letters will be sent to donors post-event. The council also announced a gift initiative for 50 homebound members receiving Meals on Wheels. These packages will include handmade quilts, knitted mug holders, calendars, and other thoughtful items.
