Stewartville Approves Plans for Legacy Drive Northwest with $1.1 Million State Grant
- Meeting Overview:
In a development, the Stewartville City Council approved plans and specifications for the Legacy Drive Northwest project, which is bolstered by a $1.1 million grant from the Minnesota State Department of Employment and Economic Development. The council is set to accept bids for the construction by April 29, 2025, with a contract award scheduled for May 13, 2025. This project includes the development of public roadway infrastructure, sanitary water, and stormwater utilities.
During the meeting, the council reviewed plans provided by the city engineer for Legacy Drive Northwest. The approval allows for the advertisement of bids. The substantial state grant illustrates the project’s importance and is expected to aid in the development of the street infrastructure.
In other business, the mayor extended sympathies to the families of Blaine Meyer and Barbara Olsen and called for community support for various local events. A benefit for four-year-old Luca Eison, battling cancer, will take place on March 30th, while the Stewartville Area Community Foundation’s Toast and Taste is scheduled for April 4th. The mayor also encouraged support for local athlete Will Cheddar, representing Michigan in the Sweet 16 basketball tournament.
The city library director reported on efforts to improve ebook availability, specifically mentioning Stewartville’s leadership role in advocating for better funding across the library system. Aiming to enhance access, the library is working towards having one ebook available for every ten holds, a goal requiring collective action from regional libraries.
Public works updates included a delay in the arrival of a new street sweeper, now expected in mid-April. Despite the delay, the public works director assured that conditions remain manageable. Additionally, the library will host a “Night of a Thousand Readers” event featuring readings and refreshments, promoting community engagement.
