- Meeting Overview:
The recent Tinton Falls School Board meeting was a hotbed of discussion, with topics including the renovation of the Tinton Falls Library, the establishment of an Economic Development Committee, and the controversial decision to shut down the local EMS in favor of a county-run service. The meeting, held on November 21, 2023, featured reports from various board members and public feedback on the issues at hand.
The proposal for the renovation of the Tinton Falls Library was a significant topic of discussion. Dr. Lisa Goldey, the superintendent, presented the resolution of the Award of Contract for the renovation. West End Kelly Builders LLC, the lowest bidder, was approved for the project. The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of February, according to Brian Perry, Vice President of the Tinton Falls Library Association, who also announced the securement of a matching grant from the State Library Association. Public support for the renovation was evident, with new resident Brandon Tobin expressing his enthusiasm for the project.
Board member Jason Puleio proposed the establishment of an Economic Development Committee in Tinton Falls to bolster local businesses. Puleio had already secured support from the Chamber of Commerce, indicating a positive response to the initiative. This proposal was part of broader discussions on economic issues, including an annual report presented by Mr. Fall, assessing the municipality’s compliance with laws and fiscal operational practices. The report indicated strong performance, with Tinton Falls scoring 39 out of 42 points, ensuring full state aid payment.
The meeting also addressed the controversial decision to shut down the local Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Zachary Nise, President of Tinton Falls EMS, voiced concerns about the county’s decision to take over EMS operations, citing potential increases in tax dollars for residents and possible delays in response time. In response to inquiries about the situation, board member Mr. Nessie clarified that the county would station at least three ambulances and three emergency response vehicles in Tinton Falls, operated by paid employees.
A report on the Vogel Medical Campus project at Tinton Falls was also discussed, with the project receiving recognition and support from Rutgers University. The project aims to provide state-of-the-art cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment facilities, an announcement that was met with gratitude from resident Brandon Tobin, a recipient of their services.
Community achievements were celebrated during the meeting. Miss Buckley reported that Tinton Falls had won the Sustainable Jersey Bronze Certification and the Rookie of the Year award, thanking the Public Works Department, the clerk’s office, and the Community Gardens for their contributions. Mrs. Clay highlighted the successful Trunk or Treat event and the positive K-8 school system assessments.
