Transitional Kindergarten Discussed at Sussex Wantage School Board Meeting
- Meeting Overview:
During the recent Sussex Wantage School Board meeting, discussions centered around the potential reintroduction of a transitional kindergarten program. This initiative aims to better accommodate young learners transitioning from pre-kindergarten to kindergarten by allowing them two years to adjust. The program was previously implemented at the district’s Laur School, and its possible revival reflects ongoing efforts to enhance early childhood education.
In addition to the transitional kindergarten discussion, the board reviewed several committee updates. The Curriculum Committee is focused on the Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC) review, a routine assessment by the county, which involves an evaluation of the district’s documentation and procedures. Meanwhile, the Facilities Committee reported on the anticipated completion of a window replacement project at Sussex Middle School, following successful preliminary lead testing.
The meeting also highlighted the achievements of the Sussex Middle School basketball teams. Both boys and girls teams had a successful season, with the boys’ team winning the Hardyston tournament for the second consecutive year. Student Matthew Shephard was honored with the Most Valuable Player award for his performance.
Public participation in school matters was encouraged, with a discussion about increasing parental involvement in committee meetings through surveys or direct participation.
