Tuckerton Council Approves $2.3 Million in Claims Amidst Key Developments in Public Works and Safety
- Meeting Overview:
The Tuckerton Borough Council convened to address financial resolutions, including the approval of over $2.3 million in claims and several public works initiatives. Key developments involved the appointment of personnel, contracts for local services, and collaborative community efforts, all passed with unanimous support.
At the forefront of the council meeting was the financial resolution authorizing the payment of claims, which totaled more than $2.3 million for the month. Councilman Brian Martin presented the breakdown of these expenditures, which included major allocations such as $153,000 for the Kelly Drive project, $884,000 for Highlands Regional, and $326,000 for Tuckerton Elementary School. Additionally, the council recognized a first-quarter tax levy of $616,000 for Ocean County and $153,000 for utilities. This resolution, moved by Councilman Martin, was approved unanimously, signaling strong fiscal oversight by the council.
In public works, the council passed a series of resolutions that included road opening permits, personnel appointments, and service contracts. Notably, Andrew Wetmore was appointed as a full-time laborer in the public works department, a move aimed at bolstering the workforce capacity. The council also awarded contracts for trash carts and chlorine analyzer services. Additionally, the council granted a contract for emergency standby generator service to RS Power, valued at $6,550.
The council also appointed an alternative court administrator, further strengthening the administrative framework.
Public safety and community service were emphasized through the fire and EMS report provided by Chief Runza of the Parkertown Fire Company. During a recent snowstorm, the fire company responded to 10 fire calls and 32 EMS calls. Their assistance extended beyond emergency response, as they helped with snow removal for seniors.
The police department’s activity report for January 2025 detailed 297 calls for service, including eight arrests and 123 motor vehicle stops. The council acknowledged a letter of gratitude from Trish Warner, who commended Officer Matt Pedrick for his quick response to a fire on Kingfisher Road. This acknowledgment of police efforts underscored the department’s dedication to community safety.
In administrative matters, the council accepted the resignation of Christopher Stancowski from the public works and water and sewer department, effective February 10. This transition necessitated discussions on staffing and operational continuity within these crucial departments.
Councilman Frank D Amore introduced a resolution for a recreation improvement grant. This initiative received unanimous support.
The council also addressed environmental concerns with updates on code enforcement and construction inspections, reporting 30 construction inspections and multiple plumbing and electrical assessments. Despite the Environmental Committee not meeting due to a lack of quorum, plans for an upcoming event at the library were announced, focusing on environmental awareness.
A highlight of community engagement was the Fourth of July fireworks committee’s announcement of a spaghetti dinner fundraiser scheduled for March 2. This event, aimed at supporting local festivities, emphasized the council’s encouragement of community initiatives and participation.
During the public forum, discussions emerged about property pilings and grant applications for hydraulic pumping and marsh restoration, with collaborative efforts noted with Foresight and Fish and Wildlife. Additionally, a historical anecdote about local lagoons led to plans for a community raffle.
