Union Town Council Approves Road Improvement and Engineering Agreements
- Meeting Overview:
In a recent Union Town Council meeting, significant agreements were authorized, including a professional services contract with Collier’s Engineering and Design for the final design of the 2026 road improvement program, capped at $322,500. Additionally, Breitview Engineering was tasked with updating plans for traffic signal installations on Vauxhall Road, Winslow, and Commerce Avenues for a fee not exceeding $24,250. These decisions were unanimously approved.
The council also focused on community safety and development. A notable incident involving the Union Fire Department was reported, where firefighters responded effectively to a significant fire at the Point condominiums. The fire was contained to three units, and the swift actions of the fire personnel allowed seven units to be reoccupied the same evening. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Additionally, the fire department emphasized the importance of keeping fire hydrants clear of snow and ice to assist in emergencies.
Recreational improvements were addressed as the council authorized the submission of a grant application for the NJDCA recreation improvement program, specifically targeting enhancements at Beer Temple Park. This aligns with the town’s broader efforts to enrich community facilities and spaces.
The meeting also highlighted the town’s cultural and social events. The council encouraged residents to participate in Black History Month activities and other community events, such as the annual skate night and the Misfits Theater production. These initiatives aim to foster community engagement and celebrate cultural heritage.
Furthermore, the council approved various financial and logistical measures, such as the rejection of bids for the Liberty Avenue pump station project and an extension with Placer Labs, Inc. for demographic research in the downtown area. Routine matters, including the approval of tax redemption certificates and licensing applications for local businesses, were also addressed without opposition.
