One resident noted, “I have black shutters and black curtains and it still peaks through,” illustrating the extent of the disruption. Concerns were also raised about traffic safety in the plaza’s parking lot, particularly the frequent disregard of a “do not enter” sign. The council acknowledged these issues and agreed to engage with Greco to explore possible solutions, such as angling the lights downward to limit their impact. The council also deliberated on the enforcement of traffic regulations, emphasizing the need to determine jurisdiction over private property violations.

In addition to addressing community complaints, the Ventnor City Council made strides in city administration through various personnel appointments. Among these was the provisional appointment of Sara Applebaum as accountant, recognizing her commitment and hard work since joining the city in 2014. Applebaum’s progression from clerk to senior clerk in 2022, and now to principal account clerk, was highlighted. Her efforts towards obtaining her Certified Municipal Finance Officer license were acknowledged, along with her role as the city’s Wellness Coordinator.

The council also confirmed Danielle Monera’s appointment as office manager for the Construction Office, citing her effective management skills and readiness to assume greater responsibilities. Similarly, Queen Harvey’s appointment as assistant comptroller was finalized. The council authorized Charles “Chuck” Snowden’s full-time employment in the Public Works department, commending his machinery operation skills, which are expected to facilitate his integration into the city’s workforce.

In the realm of city infrastructure and operations, the council introduced several ordinances aimed at revising city fees. Ordinance 005 proposed the adoption of the Ventnor Professional Campus Redevelopment Plan, targeting revitalization of a dormant area on Ventnor Avenue for mixed-use development. Ordinance 006 intended to amend land use compliance fees to align with neighboring communities. Amendments were also proposed for merchant licensing and seasonal certificates of occupancy fees, while Ordinance 009 addressed fishing pier fee adjustments, maintaining military and senior rates while increasing others to offset rising costs.

Resolution 124 approved construction management services for the rehabilitation of well number five, with a budget not exceeding $47,700. The council underscored the urgency of completing this project before summer due to drought conditions. The council also moved to eliminate user fees for credit and debit card transactions across city departments, except for the clerk’s office, to streamline payment processes for residents.
